The Glasshouse Theatre
Brisbane’s new Glasshouse Theatre at QPAC rethinks what a major performing arts venue can be: open, culturally grounded and technically exacting. Designed by Blight Rayner Architecture in partnership with Snøhetta, the theatre's rippling glass façade turns the foyer into a visible “public theatre”, while acknowledging Country through references to Kurilpa, the Brisbane River and Queensland’s seven watersheds. Inside, a 1,500-seat auditorium prioritises intimacy, acoustic precision and adaptability for opera, ballet, symphony, theatre and musicals. From automated stage machinery to broadcast-ready technology, the A$184 million project shows how architecture can connect city, performance and place for audiences and artists alike.
