A modest weatherboard Beaconsfield's cottage has been recast by ZW Architect with a 180 sqm addition. The renovation honours jarrah floors and ornate cornices while opening the plan to the garden and a new shed-studio. A restrained material palette marks the junction of eras: white cladding and brickwork frame a sheltered deck, concrete floors slide to a timber-lined window seat, and a crisp kitchen is lifted by clerestory light and pale timber. The bathroom’s vertical tiles and twin mirrors continue the calm geometry. Northern light is drawn deep into everyday spaces, softening edges and animating the interior across seasons. The result is a quietly contemporary home, photographed by Blake Hobson, that strengthens old bones and embeds outdoor living in Western Australian sun.
