Details
dRMM: Building from Forests examines how design and construction could be shaped by local, climate-resilient, mixed-species forests. Centred on the climate emergency, the display explores the potential for wood from UK forests to support local production and presents new products developed through research into this underused resource.
The event is relevant to architecture, construction, forestry, manufacturing, materials research and sustainability-focused design. It follows a three-year research project by the New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering, Edinburgh Napier University, Built Environment – Smarter Transformation and EcoSystems Technologies, commissioned by Forestry Commission England. Presented by architecture practice dRMM, it forms part of Make Good: Rethinking Material Futures, a ten-year programme supported by John Makepeace OBE. The display highlights practical links between forest management, material innovation and lower-impact approaches to the built environment.
