Details

Biennale Gherdëina 10, titled (Future) Paradise Gardens, examines the garden as a site of care, coexistence, imagination and social reflection. Curated by Samuel Leuenberger, the biennial brings together 24 artistic positions by 28 local and international artists, with projects shaped in dialogue with Val Gardena’s landscape, histories, communities and human and non-human inhabitants. Its themes include commoning, spiritual growth, decolonising the garden, queer ecology, botanical classification, and gardens as spaces for reflection and poetry.

The programme addresses contemporary art audiences, cultural practitioners and communities interested in ecology, place-based practice, craft and socially engaged artistic inquiry. Participating artists include Chanelle Adams, Andrius Arutiunian, Giulia Cenci, Sandra Knecht, Lydia Ourahmane, Walter Niedermayr, Ana Prvački, Bosco Sodi, Álvaro Urbano, Yuyan Wang and Evelyn Taocheng Wang, among others. The edition positions the garden as a framework for considering shared life, responsibility and more liveable futures.

Venues and Exhibitions

The biennial will take place in three main venues spread across the valley: the main town of Ortisei, the town of S. Cristina, and Pilat.
