Alberni by Kengo Kuma
Alberni by Kengo Kuma reimagines Vancouver’s luxury residential skyline by responding to strict view protections, dense urban life and Alberni Street’s evolving identity. The 43-storey project uses sculpted voids, layered materials and shifting façades to preserve mountain and harbour sightlines while creating a more elusive architectural form. At street level, an amphitheatre, a canopy, and a piano turn arrival into a public-facing urban room. Inside, amenity spaces prioritise atmosphere, craft and even acoustics over formulaic opulence. The article argues that Alberni’s real achievement lies in uniting architecture, landscape, sound, and domestic luxury into a distinctly Vancouver tower for contemporary city living.
