Schuler Shook

Practice

Schuler Shook is a design and consulting firm founded in 1986, with offices in Chicago, Minneapolis, Dallas, the San Francisco Bay area, New York and Melbourne, specialising in lighting design, theatre planning, and audio and video design. The firm works on projects across nearly every continent and serves a broad range of sectors, including theatres and performing arts centres, concert halls, popular music venues, historic restorations, aviation and transit, education, hospitality, museums, retail, and commercial and government environments. Its approach centres on collaboration and careful listening to turn creative ideas into practical outcomes, with functionality, flexibility, sustainability, accessibility, and diversity, equity and inclusion identified as key priorities. Notable projects such as The Salt Shed, the James Earl Jones Theatre and Millennium Park’s Pritzker Pavilion reflect experience across contemporary venues, adaptive reuse and historic preservation. A distinguishing feature of the practice is its integration of technical planning and design across multiple disciplines, supported by industry recognition, including IES Illumination Design Awards of Merit and other project-based awards.
