Architectural Practice
Openspace Architecture is a boutique architectural and interior design practice founded in 1998 by principal Don Gurney and based in North Vancouver, with a core focus on resort residential projects and a broader portfolio spanning commercial, hospitality, master planning, cultural, industrial and infrastructure work. The practice serves clients across multiple countries and delivers projects in locations including British Columbia, Hawaii, California and Colorado through a collaborative international team. Its design approach is centred on living with nature, with each project shaped by the client’s vision and the site's specific qualities, and guided by principles such as space, light, proportion, natural materials, warmth, timelessness, and quality. Openspace Architecture uses a hands-on process that moves from early hand sketching through coordinated 3D digital modelling to detailed construction documentation, allowing clients to visualise building systems, interiors, furniture and art placement. The studio has also gained industry recognition through Western Living Designers of the Year finalist.
