D’Arcy Jones Architects (DJA)
Architectural Practice
Founded in Vancouver in 1999 by D’Arcy Jones, D’Arcy Jones Architects (DJA) is an architecture studio recognised for carefully crafted, inventive work across homes, commercial spaces, and arts and cultural projects in both urban and rural settings. Over time, the practice has refined an agile, ever-evolving design process that balances rational, conceptual thinking with a willingness to explore the more artful and experimental sides of architecture. DJA is drawn to briefs that challenge the team to test new ideas, sites, and ways of building, and to work comfortably across a wide range of budgets.
The studio is motivated by how design can shape and enrich culture, creating architecture that responds to contemporary life with sensitivity, intention, and boldness. Its work questions what is often taken for granted, using ‘what-if’ thinking, optimism, and close attention to habit, function, construction, beauty, and even chance. DJA’s projects have been widely published and awarded in Canada and internationally, with honours including the Ronald J. Thom Award for Early Design Achievement, the AFBC Design Excellence Award, the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize for Outstanding Project for Pearl Block, and the Prix de Rome in Architecture, which supports the studio’s ongoing research and international engagement.
