Design Miami’s 21st edition marks its 20th anniversary, focusing on the central theme "Make. Believe." and led by Curatorial Director Glenn Adamson. The event explores the evolution of collectible design, with particular emphasis on the creative forces that shape both heritage and contemporary innovation in the field. The programme is crafted for professionals and enthusiasts in the collectible design sector, targeting designers, gallery representatives, curators, craft specialists, and a broader design-literate audience seeking insight into current and future trajectories of collectible design.
A key thematic highlight is Design Miami 2.0, a museum-quality installation curated by Glenn Adamson. This feature gathers eight international design studios, each presenting new, sculptural works that engage with the overarching theme. The participating studios include Jack Craig (presented by David Klein Gallery), KAMEH, Dirk van der Kooij, Mehdi Dakhli, Stephen Burks Man Made in collaboration with ALPI and Friedman Benda, Steven Young Lee (presented by Duane Reed Gallery), TF Design, and Victoria Yakusha. The curation foregrounds distinctive material investigations and conceptual approaches, showcasing a diversity of creative voices.
The Gallery Programme incorporates contributions from over 20 leading galleries, each presenting curated selections spanning historical and current design. Confirmed exhibitors include Adrian Sassoon, Ateliers Coubet, Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Charles Burnand Gallery (“Monuments of Ether”), David Gill Gallery, Delvis (Un)limited Gallery, Friedman Benda, Galerie Scene Ouverte, Galerie signé, Giulia De Jonckheere (featuring works from Ettore Sottsass, George Nakashima, Clotilde Ancarani), Hostler Burrows (“Ten Women”), Ippodo Gallery New York, J. Lohmann Gallery, Magen H, Mass Modern Design, Mercado Moderno, Mindy Solomon Gallery, Moderne Gallery, Ornamentum, The Future Perfect, Théorème Editions, and Wexler Gallery. These activations contribute unique perspectives on process, materiality, and narrative in contemporary design.
Special Projects expand the fair’s scope through collaborative and site-specific works. Notable initiatives include “Memories of the Future” by Achille Salvagni Atelier, presenting a dialogue between mid-20th-century Italian design and contemporary pieces; “Rising, Rooted, and Woven” by Joyce Billet (presented by Villa Albertine in collaboration with Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden), which merges sculptural and botanical influences; and a Korea-focused showcase produced collaboratively by the Korea Craft and Design Foundation and Gallery LVS. Additional highlights comprise new furniture editions from Curzio Malaparte for Casa Malaparte, Misha Kahn × Friedman Benda’s “Swatching Space Time” rug incorporating traditional weaving and virtual reality, the Nouvel Glass Reflections residency, Ornamentum’s silver-plate installation, Álvaro Catalán de Ocón’s PET Lamp series inspired by Gurunsi architecture, and “Fiore di Cactus” by Ray & Gufram, edited by Francesco Vezzoli.
Through its layered framework of curated galleries, studio activations, immersive curiosities, and experimental special projects, the event assesses both the traditions and emergent directions in collectible design. The 2025 edition’s focus provides a comprehensive assessment of the dynamic interplay between legacy and innovation, encapsulated under the theme "Make. Believe."
